CHARLESTON (AP) — Sen. Jay Rockefeller is feeling confident ahead of a crucial vote that will allow debate on health care legislation.
The Senate is set to vote today on a procedural measure that would set the stage for a full-fledged debate on a bill that would bring major changes to health care in the U.S.
Republicans are trying to kill the legislation before debate begins, and Democrats need 60 votes to allow it to go forward.
Rockefeller says he’s confident the votes are there, and promises to introduce a number of amendments to the bill if today’s vote goes in Democrats’ favor.
He wants more coverage for children and senior citizens, including the addition of dental, vision and hearing benefits to Medicare.
