Wirt County Assessor Deborah Hennen is back at work after being arrested and charged with trying to intimidate the county’s deputy assessors.
Attorney Walt Auvil says Hennen plans to remain at her job. She issued a statement through her lawyers saying she’s pleaded not guilty to the charges and looks forward to defending herself.
The 52-year-old faces misdemeanor charges of intimidating two employees regarding an ongoing police investigation. A criminal complaint accuses Hennen of threatening to fire one deputy assessor and accusing another of prompting the investigation.
Police and prosecutors have declined to discuss that investigation.
Wirt County Commission President Charles Murray says it has to be business as usual at the courthouse until the situation is resolved.
