CHARLESTON — A project created to revamp West Virginia’s tax system is preparing to release its preliminary recommendations.
The West Virginia Tax Modernization Project will release its proposals at a Nov. 20 meeting at the Charleston Marriott Town Center. The Department of Revenue says the meeting is an opportunity for the public to comment on the proposals.
The project last released a study in 2006 that recommended for and against dozen of potential changes. Manchin and the Legislature adopted several of those, including cutting the sales tax on groceries by half.
Gov. Joe Manchin revived the project in September.
Its chairman, Revenue Secretary Virgil T. Helton, says the goal is to explore further changes to improve the state’s tax structure.
