Grant will shape future of historic W.Va. mansion

WEIRTON — The new owners of steel magnate E.T. Weir’s summer home will use a $2,500 grant to help plan the property’s future.

The estate was formerly known as the Weirton Steel Lodge and more recently was called Rosemont Manor. It will be studied by Carol Peterson, a Pittsburgh historian and environmental planner.

Peterson will help prepare a historical profile of the property and suggest possible uses, as well as identify any needed improvements.

Earlier this year, the Williams Country Club paid $225,000 for the 10,000-square-foot stone mansion at an auction.

The Business Development Corp. of the Northern Panhandle won the grant. Director Pat Ford says the study is an essential tool for encouraging investors or business partners.
