MORGANTOWN —
An off-campus construction accident briefly knocked out power to parts of West Virginia University, but school officials say move-in day wasn’t affected.
Morgantown’s population is doubling Friday as students return for the start of a new semester Monday. Among the roughly 30,000 students who are filling the streets are 6,200 new students.
To minimize traffic headaches around the dorms, students were assigned check-in times.
Those who attended orientation on or before June 13 were instructed to move their belongings in from 8 to 11:30 a.m., while the rest were told move from 12:30 to 4 p.m.
Housing director Corey Farris says power was restored to most places quickly, and residence hall backup generators kicked in immediately.
The Mountainlair Student Union and Stewart Hall had electricity restored in about 90 minutes.
