Helmick names Antolini communications director

Commissioner of Agriculture Walt Helmick has announced that Carl “Butch” Antolini will join the West Virginia Department of Agriculture July 22 as communications director.

“I believe I am getting a wealth of strong media experience in Butch and have faith that he will be a great asset in our efforts to grow agriculture in this state,” said Commissioner Helmick.

Antolini grew up in Elkins and began his journalism career at age 14 as a sports writer for The Inter-Mountain. He also worked as a regional bureau chief for the Morgantown Dominion-Post and statehouse reporter for the Cumberland Times-News in Maryland. He has 38 years’ experience in the media industry.

Most recently, Antolini was the executive editor and general manager of The Register-Herald in Beckley, where he had been since 2005. He and his wife, Heather, have four children, Michael, Elizabeth, Audrey and John “Jack.”
