BECKLEY — James Lane and The Good Time Band will present an evening of music and dance in memory of Lawrence Shumate at the Lindside Senior Center Saturday from 7 to 10 p.m.
The musical tribute to Shumate is free and open to the public.
Shumate was a longtime supporter of the Monroe County Senior Center and had called figures for square dances in the past years. He and a longtime friend, Letha Miller, were still active in following the music groups and were avid followers of The James Lane Band.
Shumate was from Union and he retired from the U.S. Navy after 21 years of service. He served aboard 10 different ships and shore stations, including the USS Forestall during the fire in 1967.
After retiring from the Navy, he was a truck driver for several years. He was a member of the Rock Camp Baptist Church.
Concessions will be available.
