Big Bend farmer chosen for annual heritage award

LEWISBURG — Joseph Cain of Big Bend is the recipient of the 2013 Farming Heritage Award.

The award is sponsored by the State Fair of West Virginia and the West Virginia Farm Bureau. It’s presented annually to a family that has demonstrated a commitment to a rural lifestyle, been involved in the community and served as a role model.

Since 1878, four generations have continued the operation of Cain’s 500-acre farm.

His selection was announced Wednesday. The award will be presented Aug. 15 at the State Fair.
