— CHARLESTON (AP) — A federal grand jury has issued a revised indictment against a former West Virginia lawmaker accused of using his legislative position to protect his gambling business.
The latest charges were issued earlier this month against former Logan County Delegate Joe Ferrell and appear largely unchanged from the original indictment issued in June and a superseding indictment released in October.
The Chapmanville Democrat and his company, Southern Amusement Co. of Logan, face 51 counts including racketeering, illegal gambling, tax violations and bribing officials including a mayor and a state lottery inspector.
Federal prosecutors want to seize at least $5.5 million from Ferrell and his company.
Ferrell’s trial is scheduled for July.
