MORGANTOWN —
A West Virginia University economist who’s written books about the state’s business climate has resigned.
The State Journal says neither the WVU administration nor the College of Business & Economics will comment on Russ Sobel’s departure except to say his resignation was effective Thursday.
A message left at Sobel’s Morgantown home Friday wasn’t immediately returned.
Sobel wrote “Unleashing Capitalism: Why Prosperity Stops at the West Virginia Border and How to Fix It,” as well as “Rule of Law: Perspectives on Legal and Judicial Reform in West Virginia.”
“Unleashing Capitalism” won the 2008 Sir Antony Fisher International Memorial Award and made Sobel popular with West Virginia media outlets.
Sobel was director of the WVU Entrepreneurship Center from October 2002 until February 2006, when he accepted an endowed chair position.
