Changes are under way at Alderson Broaddus University as it transitions from a college to a university.
The private school in Philippi is restructuring academic programs as part of its strategic plan. The restructuring includes expanding majors, developing new master’s programs and reorganizing programs into individual colleges.
Media outlets report that Alderson Broaddus officials announced the restructuring Thursday prior to the 143rd opening convocation at the Rex Pyles Coliseum.
The restructuring comes as enrollment has jumped from 495 students two years ago to 1,143 this fall.
The school’s Board of Trustees voted in April to change its name from Alderson Broaddus College to Alderson Broaddus University. The change went into effect July 1.
