Census forms get W.Va. city names mixed up

Vienna — Some Vienna residents are learning they can move to a new city without ever leaving the house, at least as far as the U.S. Census Bureau is concerned.

Some residents received census forms this week that say they live in neighboring Parkersburg.

Vienna officials are taking the mix-up seriously, since the census is used for a range of purposes including government funding.

Mayor David Nohe is telling residents to cross out “Parkersburg” on their forms and write in “Vienna” before sending them in.

Michael Gregorio, a spokesman for the census bureau, says an incorrect city won’t matter as long as the street address is right.

He says forms are counted using a code that assigns each housing unit to its proper location.
