Mini-medical school sessions to be offered

BECKLEY — The West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine is offering a four-session “mini-medical school.” Participants will learn how their bodies work — specifically the heart, brain, lungs and digestive system — and lifestyle choices they can make to optimize their health.

The hands-on sessions will be taught by WVSOM students and faculty using demonstrations and high-tech instructional tools such as patient simulators — robots that can imitate a variety of diseases and illnesses. Using the robots, class members will have hands-on opportunities to listen to heart, lung and bowel sounds that replicate a variety of health conditions.

The four classes are scheduled April 1, 8, 15 and 22 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on the WVSOM campus. The mini-med school is open to anyone age 18 and over. Every session includes dinner and participants will receive a notebook. Total cost for all four sessions is $20.
