MORGANTOWN — Beckley native Chelsi Tabor helped lead the West Virginia gymnastics team in a split with No. 15 Michigan and William & Mary Friday.
Tabor tied with teammate Amy Bieski for sixth place on vault with a 9.775. She also posted a season-best 9.8 on the beam, tying for fifth with fellow Mountaineer senior Shelly Purkat.
Last week, Tabor posted a first-place score of 9.85 on vault as WVU swept a quad meet at the University of Maryland. She also scored 9.65 on beam.
The Mountaineers next host Ohio State in their annual Pink Meet at 8 p.m. Friday.
Zimm listed among ‘newcomers to watch’ at California, Pa.
Oak Hill graduate Tyler Zimm was recently selected as a “newcomer to watch” by American Baseball Coaches Association/Collegiate Baseball Atlantic Region.
Zimm, a freshman left-hander at California (Pa.) University, was a two-time Class AA first-team all-stater for the Red Devils. He was 8-3 with a 0.53 earned run average last season.
The Vulcans open the season Monday in the Catawba Invitational in Salisbury, N.C. They will visit the University of Charleston Feb. 20-21.
Dates for 30th BNI set
The 2010 BNI Memorial Tournament, the 30th edition of the annual amateur golf event, is scheduled for Aug. 7-9.
The tournament will again be played at Pipestem Resort State Park, Grandview Country Club and The Resort at Glade Springs (Cobb Course).
For the second straight year, the event is a West Virginia Golf Association player of the year points tournament.
