The Coalfield Conference wrestling tournament, scheduled for today at Independence, has been postponed.
It has been rescheduled for Monday at Independence Middle School. Weigh-ins will run from 11 a.m. to noon, and wrestling will start at 1 p.m.
Bluefield, Fayetteville, Greenbrier West, Liberty, Meadow Bridge, Oak Hill, PikeView, Richwood, Shady Spring, Webster County and Wyoming East will join host and defending champion Independence.
As many as 10 inches of snow were predicted to fall late Friday night and into today, potentially keeping some teams from traveling to the tournament.
“We feel like we should be able to host the whole field,” Independence coach Cliff Warden said. “Everybody I have talked to said, ‘Let’s do it.’”
The finals will start no sooner than 7 p.m. Monday.
Meanwhile, the Mountain State Athletic Conference tournament, scheduled for today at George Washington High School, has been canceled. No makeup date has been set.
Woodrow Wilson, Greenbrier East and Princeton were set to compete in the tournament.
Woodrow coach Street Sarrett said the Flying Eagles will host a duals match with Greenbrier East Thursday. Weigh-ins will start at 6 p.m., with wrestling getting under way at 7 p.m.
