Unbeaten MSU takes Weinbrecht Classic


PORTSMOUTH, Ohio — Nick Aldridge scored 18 points and Marcus Hunter and Deandre Duncan came off the bench to combine for 31 as Mountain State University defeated Shawnee State University 82-60 Saturday in the finals of the Harry Weinbrecht Classic

Aldridge also had 13 rebounds for the 7-0 Cougars, who were ranked No. 2 in the NAIA preseason poll.

Hunter scored 18 points while Duncan added 13 points.

“I thought Marcus and Deandre came in and really gave us a lift,” coach Bob Bolen said. “Nick was really solid and played an all-around game.”

MSU held Shawnee State to 22.6 percent shooting from the floor in the half and finished with a 15-0 run to lead 42-20.

Barry Wellington chipped in 15 points and four assists for the Cougars, who will host Salem International for homecoming at 4 p.m. next Saturday.

Shawnee State (1-3) got 14 points from Keelyn Franklin, 12 from Ian Nixson and 11 points and 11 rebounds from Tyler Morgan.
