DANVILLE, Va. — The Cougars scored three times in six minutes early in the second half to record their 11th victory of the season.

Hassan Katrib scored on a breakaway, from a Mauricio Pena assist, to give MSU a 1-0 lead in the 35th minute.

Alex Cottle found Charlot Nacius for a second goal at the 50-minute mark. Defender Michel Hiza followed with a score from an Ali Katrib free kick, and then another defender, Fredson Jean, scored in the 56th minute from a Hiza assist.

“I’m really proud of Michel and Fredson getting forward on the attack,” coach John Birkelbach said.

Goalkeeper Robert Clerveaux, who has now gone 4 1/2 games without surrendering a goal, had seven saves.

MSU (11-4) plays at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Concord University. The Cougars, who won the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular-season championship last week, return home for a 6 p.m. match Thursday against Ohio Valley University.



Wrestling fundraiser today

A fundraising dinner for the Woodrow Wilson High School and Park and Beckley-Stratton Middle School wrestling programs will be held tonight at the new Holiday Inn on Dry Hill Road.

The evening begins with a social at 6 p.m. Dinner follows at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $50. A $1,500 prize will be awarded. A silent auction will also be held.



Fayetteville golf tournament rescheduled

The Fayetteville High School Junior Class golf tournament has been rescheduled for 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at Bridge Haven Golf Course.
