MSU men capture KIAC crown; women play today

Ali Katrib scored in the 82nd minute to lift the Cougars, not only to the win, but to the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season championship.

Katrib took a free kick from 35 yards out. The ball curved around Asbury’s defensive wall and bounced off the keeper’s hands into the goal.

MSU (10-4-0, 4-0 KIAC) held a 4-3 edge in shots on goal and 8-2 on corner kicks.

“We played 65 minutes in their half of the field,” coach John Birkelbach said. “This was a huge result.”

MSU will host the KIAC tournament Nov. 7-8.



MSU women host Asbury today for KIAC title

The Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women’s soccer regular season crown is on the line as Mountain State University hosts Asbury College at 4 p.m. today at the YMCA soccer complex.

MSU comes into the match with a 7-5-1 overall mark (3-0 in the KIAC) while Asbury is 7-6-1 (2-0).

The Cougars’ Erica Alderman leads the conference in scoring with 15 goals. Asbury’s Miranda Wiley is second with 11.
