By Mickey Furfari

MORGANTOWN — Athletic Director Ed Pastilong has announced that West Virginia University’s strength and conditioning staff has been completed and a video coordinator for football has been appointed.

Mike Joseph, director of strength and conditioning, has added Shawn Gaunt as director of speed/skill development, Ben Byron and Paul Chandler as assistant strength and conditioning coaches, and Corey Twine as an assistant coordinator of strength and conditioning.

Brett Kelley has been named the new video coordinator for football.

“I am extremely pleased with the additions to our strength and conditioning staff and with our video coordinator,” said Bill Stewart, head football coach. “All of these people are fine individuals and bring a lot of experience and knowledge in their areas to our staff. I look forward to working with them.”

Joseph said, “I think the addition of the coaches to our staff is very dramatic to the training of our student-athletes. Each coach brings a great enthusiasm and work ethic to maximize the potential of our teams and athletic program.

“All of the coaches are very good at what they do and will enable us to reach a new level with our strength and conditioning program.”

Gaunt has been assistant strength and conditioning coach/speed/skill development coordinator at Notre Dame since 2004. Joseph also came from Notre Dame this past winter to head the program at WVU.

Byron came here from South Florida, where he served as an assistant strength and conditioning coach since 2006. Chandler was an assistant strength and conditioning coach at Florida from January 2006 and an intern there before that.

Twine was astronaut strength and conditioning coach at Wyle Laboratories, Ind. (NASA) at Johnson Space Center in Houston since August 2002. Kelley is as Morgantown native who was the video coordinator and account executive for the Nashville Kats Arena football team from October 2004 to December 2007.
