Tabor named to All-EAGL first team
MORGANTOWN — Beckley native Chelsi Tabor was named to the All-East Atlantic Gymnastics League first team Friday during the EAGL Championships banquet at Lakeview Resort.
Tabor, a sophomore vault specialist, is second in the league in regional qualifying scores (RQS) with a 9.811.
Also named to the first team were junior Meghan Morris (bars, beam, floor and all-around), junior Erica Watson (bars) and freshman Amy Bieski (floor, all-around). Bieski was also named to the second team (vault, bars), as were senior Jaime Gold (vault) and sophomores Kiersten Spoerke (beam) and Shelly Purkat (floor).
The Mountaineers host the EAGL Championships today beginning at 4 p.m.
WVU falls to Rutgers 8-4
PISCATAWAY, N.J. — Freshman Jedd Gyorko fouled out to first base in the top of the ninth inning with two outs and the bases loaded to end a West Virginia rally in an 8-4 loss to Rutgers in a Big East baseball game Friday.
Beckley native Jordon Yost had a sac-fly RBI in the loss.
Junior Josh Whitlock (5-1) was the losing pitcher. He gave up seven runs on seven hits, walked five and struck out five in 6.1 innings. Rutgers’ Matt Patterson (2-0) was the winner in relief, allowing just four runs on four hits and two walks in 3.2 innings.
Game two of the three-game series will be at 1 p.m. today.
