Sports Briefs — Thursday, February 14

Coaches at the college, high school, junior varsity, junior high and recreational league (adult or youth) levels are urged to submit game results and/or updated statistics to The Fayette Tribune.

When turning in scores or statistics, coaches/statisticians are reminded to provide at least the last names of participants; information will not be accepted with only the first name.

Spring sports schedules and rosters should be submitted as soon as possible.

Information can be sent a variety of ways: via e-mail to skeenan@register-herald.com; by U.S. mail at The Fayette Tribune, P.O. Box 139, Oak Hill, WV 25901; by fax at 304-469-4105; or in person at the office at 417 W. Main Street in Oak Hill.

    Longtime Mountaineer sports announcer Tony Caridi will continue calling the plays at West Virginia University football and basketball games, IMG College announced Monday.

    Caridi had told The Register-Herald last week in an appearance in Summersville that a deal between him and IMG College was imminent.

    WVU announced Tuesday it has settled a lawsuit with the Big East for an unspecified amount, clearing the way for the conference power Mountaineers to join the Big 12 in July in time for the fall football season.

    West Virginia University announced Tuesday it has settled a lawsuit with the Big East for an unspecified amount, clearing the way for the Mountaineers to join the Big 12 in July.
    Athletic Director Oliver Luck said the terms of the deal were confidential and WVU wouldn’t release details. But Luck said no state, taxpayer, tuition or other academic dollars will be used in the settlement.
