Whether it was opposing defenses or illness, nothing stopped Charleston Catholic’s Tom Trupo for long.

The junior forward, who missed nine games due to a bout with ulcerative collitis, still scored 25 goals to help power the Fighting Irish to their second consecutive Class AA-A state championship.

Ten of those goals came in the playoffs, including three — all unassisted — in a 4-1 victory over Oak Hill in the title game.

A three-year starter, Trupo has 64 career goals.

Charleston Catholic sophomore midfielder Sam Revercomb and senior goalkeeper Tanner Jamison join Trupo on the all-state first team.

Revercomb accounted for 39 goals for the 19-4-3 Irish, who outscored opponents 83-24. He found the back of the net 23 times and had assists on 16 other goals.

Jamison, like Trupo a repeat first-team selection, recorded 13 shutouts.

Oak Hill, semifinalist Berkeley Springs and defensive-minded St. Joseph also placed three players on the first team.

Senior forward Thomas Booth scored 34 goals for Oak Hill to conclude his career with 101. He missed the state and regional tournaments because of a collapsed lung.

Junior midfielder Alex White was the 18-5 Red Devils’ playmaker and wasn’t a big scorer. But one of his 11 goals gave Oak Hill a 1-0 victory in overtime over PikeView in the regional and another came against Berkeley Springs in the state semifinal.

Defender Daniel Garcia, a senior and four-year starter, was the backbone of an Oak Hill defense, that allowed opponents just 33 goals. He is a returning first-teamer.

Sophomore forward Zach Wise topped Berkeley Springs (15-7-0) with 31 goals and nine assists, while midfielder Gudiel Guzman scored 10 goals and had 13 assists.

Jake Wise, a senior, keyed the Indians’ defense but also scored 11 goals and had nine assists.

Both Wises and Guzman were first-team all-staters last season as well.

St. Joseph (11-5-3) outscored opponents 29-18 and placed junior midfielder Evan Bolano, junior defender Josh Pierson and senior goalkeeper Robert Blair on the AA-A first team.

Blair is a repeat selection while Bolano moves up from the second team.

Another state semifinalist, Weir (17-4-1), is represented to the first team by forward Tyler Salko and midfielder Matt Kopp.

Salko, a senior, scored 32 goals and had 20 assists and  52 steals. Kopp likewise stood out on either side of the midfield stripe for the Red Riders, contributing 10 goals, 14 assists and 100 steals.

The remaining first team forwards are Liberty Harrison junior Brandon Franklin, who scored 48 goals and had 11 assists, and PikeView senior Casey Weatherly, who tallied 25 goals and assisted on 19 others.

Senior midfielder Aatu Kolehmainon scored 34 goals for Sissonville while Brandon Slack, a junior midfielder, had 23 for Herbert Hoover.

PikeView senior defender Josh Hill, a former midfielder, completes the all-state first team.

The second team is captained by Liberty Harrison junior midfielder Austin Trent, who scored 18 goals and had 22 assists.

Other midfielders include  Shady Spring junior Cameron Killmer, Charleston Catholic senior Peyton Hutcheson, Sissonville sophomore Anthony Rinehart, Trinity junior Jeff Merifield, Tyler Consolidated senior Justin Cooper and Philip Barbour senior Tyler Rogers.

The forwards are Oak Hill freshman Jacob Kemlock, PikeView junior Will Webster, Weir senior Fred Jones, St. Joseph senior Nick Turner, Herbert Hoover junior Brandon Slack and Philip Barbour’s Trevor Mouser.

Shady Spring senior Andrew Farley, Charleston Catholic senior L.J. Stanley, Ravenswood senior Andrew Berry and South Harrison sophomore Spencer Shriver are the defenders while Oak Hill junior Mark Manning and Sissonville junior Charlie Gary are the goalkeepers.
