Sale of Oakhurst Golf Links falls through

The sale of a historic golf course in West Virginia has fallen through for a second time.

Oakhurst Links owner Lewis Keller Sr. says the winning bidder from a recent auction couldn’t secure the financing for the $410,000 transaction. He says it’s possible that a bank will foreclose on the property in White Sulphur Springs. The course was built in 1884 and bought by Keller in 1959.

Keller had struggled for years to find a buyer. Last year a Richmond, Va.-based group had planned to take over the course but couldn’t raise the cash to close the deal.

Keller says the course has significant historical value. Players use old-style clubs and golf balls the way it was done more than a century ago.

Keller’s attorney didn’t return several telephone messages.
