Cougars remain unbeaten, defeat Mid-Continent 97-71

MONTGOMERY — No. 1 Mountain State didn’t reach 100 points for the fifth straight game but the Cougars had little trouble with Mid-Continent in the opening round of the Baisi Classic at WVU Tech Saturday.
The Cougars had five players reach double figures in a 97-71 victory.
Mountain State improved to 9-0 on the year.
James Spencer led the Cougars with 18 points, his lowest output of the season.
Ralph Legg came off the bench to pour in 16 points. He hit 4-of-6 threes and dished out five assists.
Jarvis Jackson and Tyrice Watkins had 12 points each and Adron Marshall added 11. James McGriff didn’t score but he had 10 rebounds. Ricky Jackson had his best outing to date with nine points.
MSU outrebounded Mid-Continent 46-34 and forced 28 turnovers which led to several scoring opportunities.
“We got off to a slow start but we got a lot of turnovers and we were able to get the lead early,” Bolen said.
The game was last tied at 16 before MSU went on a run to take the lead for good.
The Cougars led 47-35 at the break but used a 20-6 run to start the second half to break the game open.
The Cougars will conclude play at the Baisi Classic today when they battle Lincoln.
