MEMPHIS, Tenn. — NAIA No. 4 Mountain State University rallied from a three-point deficit in the final two minutes Saturday to defeat Crichton College 87-83.
MSU’s Bo Harris made a three-point play to tie the score at 83. The Cougars followed with a defensive stop and Harris passed to Andrew Lee for a layup.
As time wound down, the Comets had to foul. Anthony Pigram made both shots and MSU avoided the upset.
Harris, a 6-foot-7 senior forward from Winchester, Ky., paced the Cougars with a game-high 21 points. Pigram followed with 19 while Lee notched 15 and Ermin Tarcin had 11.
Reserve guard Marcus Hunter came off the bench to hit three 3-point goals and also score 11 points.
Lee and Pigram grabbed nine rebounds apiece while Tarcin had eight. Lee, a 6-5 junior forward, also contributed nine assists and Lee made three steals.
Memphis transfer Andre Allen led No. 26 Crichton with 17 points. Marqueys Brown chipped in 16, Rico Seay had 14 and Jerranda Wheeler netted 10 for 5-3 Comets.
MSU led 45-41 at halftime.
The Cougars, 9-1, return to action Saturday, Dec. 27, hosting Ohio State-Marion at 4 p.m. at the Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center.
