Tigers roll by Eagles, now await playoff fate

By Jim Nelson
FOR THE REGISTER-HERALD

PRINCETON Scoring on their first three possessions, Princeton steamrolled Woodrow Wilson 49-6 Friday night.

The win was the Tigers’ sixth in a row and was essential to keep alive Princeton’s playoff hopes.

Princeton started early when Tevin Allen sprinted to the end zone from 30 yards out just three minutes into the game. Moments later, after Dalton Christian recovered an Woodrow fumble at the Eagles’ 44, Tigers’ quarterback Jerrell Powell hit tight end Corey Quick with a 13-yard touchdown pass.

After a Woodrow punt, Princeton’s third score came when Powell scrambled into the end zone 17 yards away. That gave the Tigers a 21-0 lead after the first quarter.

Princeton added a second quarter score on a 70-yard drive with Powell scoring his second score of the half with a 2-yard bootleg run left. After intermission, Allen electrified the crowd with a 52-yard touchdown run and fullback Cameron Mallory wrapped up a short drive with a 1-yard touchdown plunge.

Princeton’s final score came midway through the fourth period as Tre’ Hopkins slashed into the end zone from five yards away.

The Flying Eagles avoided a shutout when Lance Martin scored from one yard out with 1:33 left in the game.

Princeton, now 6-4, will await its playoff fate after this weekend’s results come in. The Tigers rolled for 434 yards total offense in the win.
