Record entries for Marshall Marathon
HUNTINGTON (AP) — A record number of participants are entered in this weekend’s Marshall University Marathon event.
The fifth annual marathon will be held Sunday. It starts in front of the Cam Henderson Center in Huntington and ends at Joan C. Edwards Stadium.
Race director Tom Dannals says 800 runners and walkers from 37 states are entered in the various races, which include the marathon, a half marathon, a relay race and a 5-kilometer walk.
Former Marshall star Mike Bartrum plans to toss footballs to runners as they near the finish line.
Summers County to host volleyball sectional
The Class AA Region 3, Section 1 volleyball tournament will be held Nov. 3-6 at Summers County High School.
Monday’s 5:30 p.m. games include No. 3 Shady Spring vs. No. 6 Oak Hill and No. 4 Summers County vs. No. 5 Greenbrier West.
Twenty minutes after the completion of Games 1 and 2, No. 2 Liberty takes on the Shady Spring-Oak Hill winner and No. 1 Independence faces the Summers County-Greenbrier West winner.
The double-elimination tournament continues Wednesday and will conclude Thursday.

The Cougars held an 8-2 advantage in shots on goal, but failed to take advantage in a 1-1 draw with Ohio Valley in their final regular season match.
Moussa Sidibe scored for MSU (12-4-1, which concluded October undefeated. Alan Porter had the equalizer for OVU.
The Cougars, Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season champions, will play for the tournament crown Nov. 8 at East River Park in Bluefield against either Asbury College or Berea College.
