Roundup: PikeView girls stop Wyoming East in sectional

PikeView 4, Wyoming East 0

LINDSIDE — Danielle Carr, Rachel Weatherly, Mariah Farley and Samantha Wood scored one goal each to lead the Panthers.

Brittany Quick, Wood and Carr each had an assist for PikeView, which took 37 shots during the match. Panthers goalkeeper Amanda Presley had two saves to post the shutout.

PikeView (13-3-4) will return to James Monroe High School at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday for the Section 2 final against either James Monroe or Bluefield.



Beckley Junior Eagles wrestling

Signups for the 2008-09 Beckley Junior Eagles youth wrestling team will be held from 5-7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 27, at the Bradley-Prosperity Fire Department. Any boy or girl ages 4-12 may participate. There is a $35 sign-up fee. Anyone with questions can contact Tommy at 222-3972.



Church Basketball League signups

The Men’s Regional Church Basketball League will begin its fifth season Dec. 1. All games will be played Monday nights. Players must be 16-over to participate. Only church teams are accepted.

The entry deadline is Nov. 17. To enter, call Pastor Gary Williams at 890-5317 or 253-1513.



Ice 10-under team holding tryouts

The West Virginia Ice girls fastpitch softball 10-under team will hold tryouts for the 2009 season at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Shady Spring Little League Complex.

MEN’S COLLEGE SOCCER

WVU men to host No. 6 Maryland

MORGANTOWN — West Virginia University’s men’s soccer team will host No. 6 Maryland at 8 p.m. tonight at Dick Dlesk Stadium in the final non-conference match of the season. The game will be televised by WSWP.

WVU (4-5-5, 2-2-4 Big East) posted a 1-0-1 record last week. The Mountaineers knocked off No. 22 Ohio State, 1-0, courtesy of a goal by freshman Alex Silva. Three days later, WVU played Seton Hall to a 1-1 double-overtime tie.

Offensively, Silva, freshman Adam Mills and sophomore Paul Paradise lead WVU with two goals apiece. Paradise leads the team in assists (3), points (7), and shots (28).

Maryland (11-3-0, 3-2-0 ACC) has lit up the scoreboard 33 times, including four four-goal performances this season. Casey Townsend, who has a team-leading 10 goals, also leads the team in points (22) and shots (42).
