Roundup: MSU's Nacius earns KIAC Player of Week honors

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Mountain State University’s Charlot Nacius has been named Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men’s soccer Offensive Player of the Week.

Nacius, a 6-foot junior forward from Delray Beach, Florida, scored a goal and had two assists in a 3-2 victory Sunday over Concord University. One of the assists was for the game winner. 

Miranda Wiley of Asbury College won women’s soccer offensive honors, while Asbury’s Kelly Wilson was the KIAC’s top defensive player.

Wiley scored three goals last week, including two against Trevecca Nazarene. She is the all-time goal-scoring leader for Asbury with 30. Wilson keyed two shutouts for her team.

Indiana University East’s Amy Stultz is the KIAC Volleyball Player of the Week. She had 32 kills in matches against Midway, Berea and Mountain State.



BOYS PREP SOCCER

Mountain State Academy 4, Nicholas County 2

Mark Bou-Abboud scored all four goals for Mountain State Academy.

Jonathan Phinnesey assisted on one of the goals. Keeper Zac Smith had nine saves for the Falcons, who outshot the Grizzlies 24-11.

Ethan Shaffer and Josh Sweeney scored for Nicholas County. Jared Hoover had three saves.

The Falcons (3-11-1) visits Teays Valley Christian on Thursday.



YMCA Thanksgiving Day 5-Mile Run/Walk

Registration is under way for the 32nd Annual YMCA Thanksgiving Day 5-Mile Run/Walk, which will be held Thursday, November 27, at the YMCA Paul Cline Memorial Youth Sports Complex. The Run/Walk entry fee is 15 before Nov.22 and $20 thereafter. A race t-shirt is included.

Ten age groups are available with the top three male and female overall and age group winners awarded trophies. A 1-mile Fun Run is also offered for $5.

Hole-in-one

Fairley Lusk of Oceana hit a hole-in-one recently on the 130-yard No. 4 hole at Clear Fork Valley Golf Course.

Lusk used a 7-iron to record the ace, his first. It was witnessed by Jim Richardson.



WVU’s Silva Big East soccer player of week

MORGANTOWN — West Virginia University men’s soccer player Alex Silva, a freshman, was named Big East Offensive Player of the Week on Monday.

The first Mountaineer to earn a conference award this season, the Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, native tallied his first career goal, also the game-winner, in WVU’s upset victory at then-No. 7/4 Connecticut last Friday.

Silva leads all WVU freshmen in shots (13) and points (3), and is tied for second on the team in shots on-goal (4).

Junior teammate Jason Bristol, a Franklin, Tenn., native was named to the Big East honor roll for his defense in the Mountaineers sixth shutout of the season.
