BOYS PREP SOCCER

Late Tuesday

Oak Hill 5, PikeView 1

OAK HILL — Defending area scoring champion Victor Garcia opened the season with a three-goal performance in the Red Devils’ 5-1 win over visiting PikeView.

Ryan Shuff and Thomas Booth added a goal apiece for Oak Hill.

Keeper Zach Van Blaricom had nine saves for PikeView.

PikeView hosts James Monroe at 7 p.m today. Oak Hill plays Shady Spring at the YMCA Youth Sports Complex.



Nicholas County 2, Independence 1

SUMMERSVILLE — The Grizzlies’ Jake Dalton scored two goals, one a header off an assist by Ethan Shaffer, as Nicholas County won its season opener.

Grizzlies keeper Jarrett Hoover had nine saves.

Daniel Halsey scored Independence’s goal.

Nicholas County (1-0) hosts Pocahontas County at 7 p.m. today.



Huntington St. Joseph 3, MSU Academy 0

Luke Grome scored two goals and Parker Smith the other as Huntington St. Joseph beat host Mountain State Academy.

Nick Turner had an assist.

Keeper Zach Smith had 10 saves for MSA (0-1-1).



GIRLS PREP SOCCER

Late Tuesday

PikeView 6, Oak Hill 2

OAK HILL — Rachel Weatherly had a hat trick, Brianna Farley scored two goals and Kiersten White chipped in another as the Panthers improved to 2-0 on the season.

Mariah Farley and Samantha Wood each had an assist for PikeView, while goalkeeper Amanda Presley made four saves.

Kelly Lyke scored a goal for Oak Hill.

PikeView hosts James Monroe at 5 p.m. today. Oak Hill is at home against Bluefield.

Nicholas County 2, Midland Trail 1

SUMMERSVILLE — Amelia Brugnoli nailed an unassisted goal to secure the victory for the Grizzlies Tuesday.

Carolyn Symes tallied Nicholas’ first goal with an assist from Kelsey Sproles. Katie Rylant had 10 saves in goal.

Nicholas County (2-0) hosts Pocahontas County at 5 p.m. today.



WOMENS COLLEGE SOCCER

Bluefield (Va.) College 2, MSU 1

BLUEFIELD, Va. — Bluefield’s Katie Warren netted two goals to lead the Rams over Mountain State Wednesday in the season opener.

Warren’s scores came at the 38:25 mark and at 75:08.

Erica Alderman scored the lone goal for the Cougars in the 37th minute of play.

MSU was held to just four shots-on-goal and Rams’ keeper Tracy Muncy was credited with three saves.

Christina Baker had four saves for MSU on six shots-on-goal.

MSU (0-1) hosts Union College Tuesday.
