Oliverio leaving WVU Tech to become Carey’s director of operations

From wire reports

MORGANTOWN — WVU women’s basketball coach Mike Carey announced Monday the hiring of state native Antoinette “Toni Kay” Oliverio as director of basketball operations. She will begin work next Monday.

“Toni Kay will be a perfect fit in our program,” Carey said. “She’s a West Virginia girl with a lot of background in administrative duties, which is exactly what we need in our director of basketball operations position. I look for a very smooth transition, and we’re very excited to have her on staff.”

Oliverio said, “This is a great opportunity to work with one of today’s great minds in basketball staff. I’m extremely excited to be working with my home-state Mountaineers.

“I want to make sure that everything runs smoothly so the coaches can coach. I want to do everything I can to help with the success of the program.”

The Clarksburg native comes to WVU from the WVU Institute of Technology, where she most recently served as assistant athletic director/sports information director since March 2008.

In that position she assisted with the overall management of the athletic program, including fundraising, external relations, facilities and academics.

From last August until this past spring, Oliverio served as the sports information director for the NAIA’s Mid-South Conference, where she was involved in all aspects of publicizing the conference. Also since August 2007, she served as assistant sports information director and academic coordinator at WVU Tech.

She served an internship in the Mid-South Conference commissioner’s office in 2006, where she played an integral role in the administration and coordination of the track and field, cheerleading, men’s and women’s basketball, softball and tennis championships. During that same time period, she worked in Louisville’s intramural and recreational sports department.

From August 2004 until December 2005, Oliverio served as a graduate teaching and research assistant, also at U of L L. She was also a sports information intern at Louisville in 2005, where she assisted in game management for women’s basketball, men’s tennis, softball and field hockey.

From 2001-03, she served as head women’s tennis coach and assistant women’s basketball coach at Salem College.

Oliverio has a bachelor’s degree in exercise science from West Liberty State, where she was also a member of the women’s basketball team from 1997-99. She received her master’s degree in sport administration from Louisville in 2006.
