BNI seniors winners
Jeff McClung and Jerry Hickman, both of Beckley, and Scott Bailey of Richwood were the seniors winners in the 28th annual BNI Memorial Tournament last weekend.
McClung won the Seniors Division (ages 50-59) with Mike Powers of Huntington second and Joel Davis of Oak Hill third.
Hickman won the Silver Division (ages 60-69). John Ashby of Galax, Va., was second and Ernie Fox of Calvin third.
Bailey won the Gold Division (ages 70 and over). Jim Hamrick of Meadow Bridge was second and Harold Mays of Beckley third.
Closest-to-the-pin contests were won by McClung, Hickman, David Barbero, Phil Norman, David Hill, Alan Wharton, Ardie Jenkins and Aaron Kemlock.
Long drive contests were won by Powers, Rick Bryner, Josh Arbaugh and Jeff Bryant.
Low rounds were turned in by Mike Mays (Pipestem), Wharton (Grandview), Ian Kenwright (Glade Springs, blue tees) and Arbaugh (Glade Springs, white tees).

Agreste honored by Valley League
MORGANTOWN — West Virginia University baseball player Joe Agreste was named Valley League Baseball Player of the Week after compiling a .529 batting average in 17 trips to the plate for the Winchester Royals.
Agreste, a returning senior and an all-Big East third-team member at first base, had two home runs, five RBIs, three doubles, six runs scored and nine hits during the week of July 7-13. He also had a slugging percentage of 1.059 and he recorded a .529 on-base percentage.
Returning as one of the top power hitters in the Big East, Agreste had an impressive .369 batting average with six home runs and 45 RBIs for the Mountaineers this past season.
Agreste led the Valley League last week in batting and tied for first in runs scored during his torrid four-game stretch. He is now batting .284 with four home runs and 10 RBIs in 74 at-bats while helping guide the Royals to a 20-15 record.
The Chesapeake, Va., native is also joined by fellow Mountaineers Jordon Yost, a Beckley native now playing at Luray), Austin Markel (Luray), Mark Dvoroznak (Waynesboro), Chris Enourato (Waynesboro), Grant Buckner (Waynesboro) and Andrew Scherer (Waynesboro) in the Valley League.

Athletes in Action lose in OT
MORGANTOWN — The top-seeded Athletes in Action took defending champion Jordan into overtime Friday night only to be nosed out by 93-91 in the final of the 2008 Jones Cup Basketball Tournament in Taiwan.
The Americans had to settle for second place with a 7-2 record. Both losses were doled out by second-seeded Jordan, which had won the two teams’ first meeting on the tourney’s opening day.
Further details about the championship contest were available. The only report received from Taiwan listed just the final score.
Australia finished in third place with a 91-88 upset of Qatar in overtime, thanks to Cody Ellis’ buzzer-beating three-pointer.
