Richwood 7, Greenbrier West 3

RUPERT — Keenan Braisher and Derick Bailey each homered as Richwood defeated Greenbrier West to capture the Class A Region 3, Section 1 championship.

Zach Adams hit a home run for Greenbrier West (11-14).

The Lumberjacks take on Charleston Catholic at 6:30 p.m. next Tuesday at WVU Tech’s Doug Epling Field in East Bank.

Golf tournament to benefit children of Joe Bennett

The Joe Bennett Memorial Golf Tournament will be held Friday, June 13, at Grandview Country Club. All proceeds will go to the college funds of the late Meadow Bridge coach’s children, Ashley, Justin and Tyler.

The four-man scramble will begin at noon with a shotgun start. Entry fees (including golf and lunch) are $60 for individuals and $240 for foursomes. Tee sponsorships are $150, or $350 coupled with a foursome.

Clarification

MORGANTOWN — The name of Brian Jozwiak was inadvertently omitted from Tuesday’s story on former West Virginia University stars who made the Playboy All-America team in past years.

He was named to the magazine’s All-America team in 1985 when the outstanding offensive tackle became only the fourth consensus All-America player in WVU history. He made five All-America teams that year.

A native of Catonsville, Md., Jozwiak now lives in Winter Haven, Fla. He returns to this area every summer for a golf tournament he founded to benefit WVU Children’s Hospital.



WVU football sets Thursday deadline for renewing season tickets

CHARLESTON (AP) — The deadline for West Virginia University football fans to renew their season tickets is Thursday.

Order forms can be sent to the Mountaineer Ticket Office or completed online at WVUGame.com.

The Mountaineers’ season kicks off Aug. 30 with a home game against Villanova.
