PREP SOFTBALL

Fayetteville 11, Montcalm 0, 5 innings

FAYETTEVILLE — Shandi Myles threw a no-hitter to lead Fayetteville to an 11-0 win over Montcalm Saturday in the Class A Region 3 semifinals.

Myles struck out 10 and walked two for the Pirates (17-7).

Casey Smith doubled and drove in three runs for Fayetteville. Amy Holly and Amber Spearen drove in two runs apiece.

Fayetteville will host either Greenbrier West or Charleston Catholic Thursday for the region championship.

HINTON — Logan Ray took a no-hitter into the fifth inning then settled for a two-hitter with eight stikeouts as the Mavericks advanced to the Class A Region 3 regionals.

Ray also had three hits, drove in two runs and scored twice. Josh White went 3-for-3, Ernie Tincher 2-3 and Heath Archie 2-3 with a double.

Pinch-hitter Ryan Farmer broke up the no-hitter in the fifth with two outs and Josh Gravely followed with a single for PiekView’s only two hits in the game.

James Monroe will face Oak Hill in the Region 3 semifinals Monday, May 19.

City of Beckley Summer League forming

Entries are now being accepted for the City of Beckley Men’s and High School Summer Basketball League.

Entry deadline is May 25.

Games will be played at Beckley-Stratton Middle School and Stratton Elementary due to construction at the Woodrow Wilson gym.

Play begins June 9 and ends Aug. 1.
