Matt Shifflette tossed a five-hit shutout and Cory Willard drove in four runs as the Warriors won the Class AA Region 3, Section 4 title Thursday at Glen Daniel.

Derek Stewart had three hits for the Warriors, and Jeffrey Growe reached safely in four trips to the plate and scored three runs.

Matt Acord had two hits for the Raiders.

Wyoming East (18-6) advances to the Region 3 semifinals which begin May 19. They’ll play the Mount View/Bluefield winner in the first round.

WELCH — Warren Furrow doubled twice, drove in five runs and also got the win in relief for the 10-13 Beavers.

Jeremy Hayes and C.J. Wiseman had two hits apiece for Mount View (10-14), which hosts Bluefield again at 6 p.m. today for the Class AA Region 3, Section 4 championship.

Woodrow-Nicholas postponed to today

Weather forced the deciding game of the Woodrow Wilson-Nicholas County sectional to be postponed until today at 6 p.m. at Summersville.

CLEAR FORK — Selina Simmons went 5-for-5 with two home runs, a double and 10 RBIs to lead Wyoming East past Mount View in a semifinal game of the Class AA Region 3 tournament.

Teammate Lindsey Cook went 4-for-5 with a double.

Tiffany Clemins had two hits for Mount View.

The Warriors advance to play Shady Spring for the region title at Independence High School Thursday.

FAIRLEA — Morgan Elswick fired a two-hitter, striking out six and walking four, as the Grizzlies won in the Class AAA Region 3 semifinals.

Elswick and Hillary Young both had two hits, while center fielder Ashley Neff had a standout defensive play, sneaking in for a pickoff at second base.

Kate Bowling and Katie Keaton had the sole hits for Greenbrier East.

Nicholas (16-11) will defend its Region 3 crown against either South Charleston or Capital at 5 p.m. Thursday.
