Could the 2013 Kennedy Award go to a player from a small Class-A Coalfield Conference team?

If Jake Parker continues to put up numbers like he has the rest of his career, it’s a pretty good possibility.

Parker helped Meadow Bridge to a 56-20 victory over Van on Friday night when he rushed for an astonishing 447 yards and six touchdowns on 32 carries.

“It’s kind of standard for him,” Wildcats coach Larry McClintic said. “He ran for all of those yards for us and it was kind of needed.”

Parker has been the workhorse for the Wildcats offense the last two years, something his coach isn’t afraid to admit. And he’s not too worried about that.

“Well, they’ve figured us out, but I mean if you can’t figure us out... well...” McClintic added. “I’m one of these guys that if it works, it’s not broke so you don’t have to fix it. We have to do what we have to do to win.”

In 2012, Parker was ranked much of the season in the top 15 rushers in the nation according to MaxPreps, and finished the year with 2,211 yards and 28 touchdowns.

If Parker were to continue on his current pace, although highly unlikely, he would surpass those numbers by week five of this season.
