Friday racing canceled at Beckley Motor Speedway

Due to weather conditions, racing at Beckley Motor Speedway was canceled Friday night.

Action will pick up next Friday night. Gates open at 4 p.m., with racing starting at 7 p.m.



Tough day for local golfers at Mid-Amateur

Four area golfers lost Friday in the first round of the West Virginia Mid-Amateur Championship at the Pete Dye Golf Club in Bridgeport.

Joel Davis of Oak Hill lost 4 and 3 to top seed and defending champion Steve Fox of Huntington, while Greg McGraw of Daniels dropped his match to Mike Keiffer of St. Albans 6 and 5.

Reuben Prillaman of Oceana was defeated 3 and 2 by John Duty Sr. of Hurricane, and Chris Ward of Beaver fell 4 and 3 to Steve Hussey of Washington.

WVU rallies to nip Hoyas 4-3

MORGANTOWN — West Virginia, trailing 3-1, battled back with a run each in three of the final four innings to nip Georgetown 4-3 Friday evening.

WVU (29-21, 10-15 Big East) got a second consecutive complete pitching performance by Matt Yurish (4-5). The junior left-hander from Martinsburg scattered seven hits, struck out seven and walked just two.
