In Raleigh County Circuit Court Friday, Judge Robert Burnside denied bond for Dominic M. Paige, a Beckley man charged with the first degree murder of Danny Kennedy.
Paige, 22, and two passengers were leaving a neighbor’s house on Cohen Street on Nov. 3. They attempted to turn around in Kennedy’s driveway, but their vehicle got stuck, according to police.
Police say a verbal dispute ensued between the three and Kennedy. Kennedy returned inside his home, but when he came back out, he exchanged words with the men again, police added. Paige then allegedly shot the 54-year-old.
Raleigh County Prosecuting Attorney Kristen Keller said since Burnside denied bond for Paige, he will remain housed in Southern Regional Jail until his case is presented before the grand jury.
One of the two passengers, Antonio LeJune Wade, 28, of Beckley, was arrested Nov. 6 and charged with unlawful possession of a deadly weapon by a convicted felon. Police said Wade’s charges were not directly related to the murder, but did stem from the murder investigation. The firearm in Wade’s possession was not the weapon used in the crime, according to police.
Keller said Raleigh County Circuit Judge John Hutchison recently transferred the juvenile involved in the crime to adult status.
His name is Lavonte “Curly” Paige, and he is the younger brother of Dominic Paige. Keller said he recently turned 18 and is also being charged with first degree murder.
