Police have ‘solid suspect’ in burglaries

— Raleigh County Sheriff Steve Tanner reported police have at least one “person of interest” in a string of burglaries that have occurred in and around Shady Spring since December.

Tanner explained that 18 burglaries, which have happened in Shady Spring along with Glen Morgan, Beaver and Ghent, have similarities that signal they may be the work of one person or a group of individuals.

“While this is not a substantial increase in burglaries for this large area, it is an increase that we are taking very seriously,” he said. “We have a solid suspect we are trying to locate and we are doing everything within our power. We have unmarked and marked police cruisers daily in the areas and are reaching out to work with other agencies, like the State Police.”

Tanner said the break-ins have all focused on jewelry, cash, firearms and prescription drugs.

Police aren’t releasing the suspect’s name during this ongoing criminal investigation.

Anyone with information on these break-ins, please contact the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office at 304-255-9300 or Crime Stoppers, 304-255-7867.
