Car wreck kills 2, critically injures 1

The Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene of an accident on U.S. 219 in Organ Cave around 2 p.m. Saturday that left two dead and a third in critical condition.

According to the incident report prepared by investigating officer Cpl. G.R. Workman, passenger Dallas Nick Morgan Jr., 30, of Ronceverte was pronounced dead at the scene.

Passenger Billy C. Hoke, 36, of Union, was flown to the University of Virginia Health System in Charlottesville, Va., and later died as a result of his injuries.

The driver, Jason M. Hoke, 29, of Union, was taken to Charleston Area Medical Center and is in critical condition.

Workman’s preliminary investigation indicates the driver lost control of the 1997 Nissan Maxima and struck a tree. The car then struck a second tree and broke into two pieces.

The report states that the front end of the car traveled around 90 yards before coming to a stop and all three occupants were ejected from the vehicle.

Workman reported that when he arrived on the scene, near Salem Presbyterian Church, witnesses indicated that two vehicles were racing and the second vehicle left after the accident.

This accident is still under investigation by the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Department.

Workman was assisted at the scene by Cpl. J.L. Burdette of the West Virginia State Police.
