State Police investigating murder of body found under car

West Virginia State Police are investigating what is believed to be a murder after a body was found Monday in the Harper Heights area outside of Beckley.

At approximately 6 p.m. Monday, troopers responded to a call reporting an abandoned vehicle with a body found underneath at 237 Easton St. The body was identified as 51-year-old Deborah Dalton of Lanark.

The body was transported to the West Virginia State Medical Examiner’s Office in Charleston, where it was determined that Dalton had been shot to death.

A State Police spokesman said Wednesday morning that the investigation into the case is continuing, and at this point appears to have been drug-related.

No arrests had been made as of Wednesday morning, but officers are continuing to investigate leads.
