Weekend television thefts likely related

— Recent thefts of televisions from two Beckley businesses appear to be related, Beckley Police Department officials said Wednesday.

Sgt. Dave Allard reported that around 3 a.m. Saturday, an unknown person threw a rock through the window of the Rent-A-Center located at Beckley Crossing.

Two display televisions were damaged by the rock; the suspect stole a 60-inch television that was on display.

Around the same time Sunday morning, Allard said, a suspect threw a rock through the display window of Aaron’s Lease-to-Own at Beckley Plaza and stole a 51-inch flatscreen television that was on display.

“We do believe this is most likely connected to an incident several months ago at Schewel’s Furniture, where somebody smashed a window and stole some television sets from there, as well,” added Allard.

“I would say (the suspects) are selling the TVs or trading the TVs, most likely to support a drug habit.”

Police obtained surveillance video of both thefts and are investigating the incidents, said Allard.

Anyone with information may contact Crime Stoppers at 304-255-STOP or Allard at 304-256-1727.
