Mount Hope man arrested after pharmacy robbery

BECKLEY — A Mount Hope man was arrested Wednesday for the armed robbery of a Robert C. Byrd pharmacy.

According to the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Department, Kevin Douglas Dean, 42, entered the Rite Aid Pharmacy located near Beckley Plaza, pulled a gun and demanded an “undisclosed amount of a controlled substance.”

The suspect then fled the pharmacy on foot and was apprehended a short distance away by Sheriff’s Deputy M. Gunther and Beckley Police Sgt. Seneca Webb and Patrolman Chris Bloxton, according to the sheriff’s department.

Gunther is serving as the investigating officer of the event.

According to the Southern Regional Jail website, Dean is being held on $1 million bond.
