Lewisburg man arrested for alleged involvement in test drive vehicle thefts

theftsA Lewisburg man whom police have wanted on charges of grand theft auto is now behind bars in Southern Regional Jail and facing an additional charge.

Taylor Douglas Richmond, 23, was found and arrested around 7 p.m. Thursday by White Sulphur Springs Assistant Police Chief Jerry Smith.

A BOLO (Be On The Lookout) for the GMC Yukon Denali that Richmond was thought to be driving was issued by 911, leading to Smith stopping Richmond in the vehicle along U.S. 60 east.

Smith said the license plate on the Denali was the one that belonged to Richmond’s own vehicle.

Before his Thursday arrest, Richmond was wanted in both Fayette and Raleigh counties for grand larceny.

White Sulphur Springs police have now charged Richmond with transporting stolen property.

Richmond allegedly took a 2000 Volkswagen Jetta for a test drive from Lilly Auto Sales, located along Eisenhower Drive, Beckley, on March 8 and did not return the car.

Authorities recovered the Jetta Sunday night in the Fayetteville area.

The Yukon Denali belonged to Wobo Motors in Oak Hill and has been recovered and returned. Richmond allegedly took the Denali Tuesday.
