Scarbro man pleads guility to firearm violation

SCARBRO — A Fayette County man previously convicted of using violent physical force against an acquaintance pleaded guilty in federal court May 13 to illegal firearm possession charges.

Jody Lowell Sowder, 37, of Scarbro, illegally possessed a semi-automatic pistol in September 2012 at a residence on Mayfair Avenue in Oak Hill.

Sowder’s previous convicted for domestic battery come in Raleigh County Magistrate Court in February 2005.

He now faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine; sentencing will be held Aug. 21 before U.S. District Judge John T. Copenhaver, Jr.

The investigation was conducted by the Oak Hill Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Joshua Hanks is in charge of the prosecution.
