Anson pleads guilty in court to child abuse

Sentenced to time at the Anthony Center

A 20-year-old man pleaded guilty Tuesday to child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury from a May incident.

Alfred Austin Anson, 19 at the time of the incident, shook his baby while it was crying and then dropped the child, according to Raleigh County Chief Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Tom Truman.

“It was badly hurt,” Truman said. “As I understand it, against huge odds, the baby is fine.”

Raleigh County Circuit Court Judge H.L. Kirkpatrick sentenced Anson to two to 10 years at a correctional facility and a $1,000 fine. However, that sentence was suspended while Anson serves six months to two years as a youthful offender at the Anthony Center.

Anson was transported to Southern Regional Jail to wait for an available bed at the Anthony Center.
