Ashes dumped from a man’s wood stove caused an early morning brush fire, firefighters said, that damaged two utility trailers and a garage’s underpinning.
The Bradley-Prosperity Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to the scene on Appalachian Heights Road around 2:30 a.m. Monday. Chief Bruce James about one acre burned behind three houses.
The fire did not damage the houses, James said. It did spread up to one house’s deck, and smoke entered a second residence.
Firefighters had the blaze extinguished in about 20 minutes, James said.
One man said he had a wood stove, but he had not used it in several days, James said. This man later confirmed he had dumped ashes from the wood stove.
