Judge gives Welch resident probation for tax evasion

A state liquor inspector who pleaded guilty to income tax evasion in June was sentenced to three years’ probation and ordered to pay a $1,000 fine in federal court in Beckley Monday.

At his plea, Jimmy Kamel Hazemey, 67, of Welch, admitted he failed to report more than $64,000 he made in 2004 from betting on sports through a Wyoming County gambling ring.

Hazemey’s cooperation with the investigation was given as a reason for his receiving probation.
