Summers County wreck injures woman

A woman was flown to Charleston Area Medical Center via HealthNet helicopter Sunday following a single-vehicle accident near Summers County High School on W.Va. 20, an engineer with the Hinton Fire Department said.

According to Len Hanger, the woman was driving south on W.Va. 20 when the accident occurred shortly after 10 a.m. When emergency responders arrived on the scene, the Ford Ranger she was driving was resting on its passenger side. The woman had to be extricated by Hinton firefighters with the Jaws of Life, Hanger explained.

The woman, whose identity was unknown by Hanger, was the only occupant of the vehicle, he said. Hanger added that W.Va. 20 was closed to traffic for about 45 minutes. Summers County sheriff’s deputies and Summers County’s ambulance service also assisted at the scene.

No one at the sheriff’s department could be reached for comment Sunday.
