Fire damaged a Gauley Bridge house Monday night.
According to Fayette County Sheriff Bill Laird, emergency officials received notification of a blaze at a two-story, wood frame house on Thomas Street about 10:30 p.m.
The house is currently being rented by Samantha Holbrook, who was not home at the time, Laird said.
Laird said several fire departments responded, including Gauley Bridge, Gauley River, Boomer and Smithers.
Deputy W.K. Willis of the sheriff’s department is assisting the Gauley Bridge Police Department in the investigation.
Laird said the fire’s origin was of an undetermined nature, and the state fire marshal’s office will help investigate this week.
